Year 3

Cardinal Class

Here’s what we’ll be covering this term in Year 3:


English

In English this term, the children will learn about and write a variety of texts such as:  stories, poems and diary entries. 

 We will be writing our own diary entries for a story, followed by a flaw story. 

 We will be reading ‘Wanted: The Perfect Pet’ and ‘The Most Magnificent Thing’. 

Maths

In maths, the children will be learning more about place value, where they will be representing and partitioning numbers to 1000.  

 With addition and subtraction, they will be learning to add and subtract ones, tens and hundreds within and across 10. 

They will also be doing more work on multiplication and division.  Here they will be multiplying and dividing by 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10.

PE

We have PE on the following days:

Monday and Tuesday

This term the children will be practising and learning skills for Netball/Bench ball and Indoor Athletics. 

 Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing; this can be in the form of plain black tracksuit bottoms with elasticated legs, plain black or red shorts and a plain white or red t-shirt. Children will need trainers. 

Swimming - 29th September - 17th October:

 Children’s swimming lessons take place at the swimming pool in school every day for three weeks.  

  Your child will need the following:  

  Boys – Swimming shorts, above the knee, no combat or long shorts allowed.  

  Girls – One-piece swimming costume, no bikinis allowed.  

No jewellery is to be worn on PE days. 


Homework

Every child is expected to complete their three-weekly reads, access TT Rockstars for at least 21 minutes and practice their weekly spellings using Spelling Frame for 21 minutes a week. 

Children need to read at home at least 3 times per week and log this on Boom Reader.

Children need to learn their spellings each week.
