Here's what we'll be covering this term in Reception:


English

In English this term, the children will learn about poetry - Isn’t it Funny How a Bear likes Honey, and read We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.

 

    


Maths 

We follow the White Rose Maths Scheme and the topics that will be covered are:

  • Re-cap and Assessment
  • Alive in 5
  • Growing 6,7, 8

Maths – Reception (number)

  • Count objects, actions and sounds
  • Subitise
  • Link the number symbol (numeral) with its cardinal number value.
  • Count beyond ten.
  • Compare numbers.
  • Understand the ‘one more than/one relationship between consecutive numbers.
  • Explore the composition of numbers to 10.
  • Automatically recall number bonds for numbers 0–10.

Where in the World

  • Where do animals come from around the world.
  • Climates / Hibernation 
  • Night and day animals
  • Where do my family live in the world?
  • Where in the World shall we go?

  • Playground – gross motor skills

P.E.

Every Tuesday morning for both Poppy Class and Tulip Class

What will the children be learning:

  • Revise and refine the fundamental movement skills they have already acquired:
    rolling
    crawling
    walking
    jumping
    running
    hopping
    skipping
    climbing
  • Progress towards a more fluent style of moving, with developing control and grace.
  • Develop the overall body strength, co-ordination, balance and agility needed to engage successfully with future physical education sessions and other physical disciplines including dance, gymnastics, sport.

Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing; this can be in the form of plain black tracksuit bottoms or plain black shorts and a plain white or red t-shirt. 

No jewellery is to be worn on PE days


Homework

Listen to your child read at least 3 times per week and log on boom reader.

Practice phonics at home – look at class dojo for weekly updates.

Look at numbers and shapes in the environment.
